Ornament (A Published Poem of Mine)

The diamond still shines
abandoned and meaningless
yet with a message as
intense and final as
goodbye.

A faint tan line can be seen on
my polished finger where
the gem once sparkled with a
purpose and a label I
believed in.

It still fits perfectly as it was
suppose to when it was
offered to me, accepted and
placed on my eager finger for
eternity.

Taking the golden symbol
off my ornamented finger meant
the end to its beauty and yet I
still remember how it felt to be
presented with a promise of
happiness forever.
